Forces Modeling Simulation (FMS) Scientist:

Provide on-site support to DoD HPC users in the FMS Computational Technology Area (CTA). FMS focuses on R&D of HPC-based physical, logical, and behavioral models and simulations of battle space phenomenology in the correlation of forces. These simulations are applied to experimentation, training, operational planning, mission rehearsal, system analysis, and acquisition. The acquisition domain includes R&D, T&E, and production and logistics. FMS also includes modeling of C4I systems that impact military decision making in war and operations other than war. For example, FMS simulations model interrelationships and impact on military operations by phenomena such as: physics of tactical radio propagation, logical characteristics of network routing algorithms in a lossy environment, and behavior of networked combat leaders under conditions of uncertainty. In order to balance fast interpretative results with high fidelity physics, this discipline is required in interact with many other areas of computational science including CFD, CEA, CEN, SIP and CCM. A variety of techniques are employed, including parallel discrete event simulation, evolutionary methods, and agent-based simulations that exploit the power of HPC. FMS on-site assistance is heavily weighted toward assistance with moving forces simulations to HPC platforms and scaling them to large applications as well as analysis of test data for force-on-force, logistics and C4I exercises.

Experience (Skills sought): HPC and parallel programming experience , various programming languages (MPI, Fortran, C/C++, Perl script, Python, Linux), knowledge of military operations and force-on-force simulations, analysis of large datasets, some visualization skills, and ability to work well with people.

Education: MS + 5 years of HPC-related experience in engineering, physics or computer science. PhD is desired

HPTi is an Equal Opportunity Employer/M/F/D/V.
