Job Description

The Primary GL Claims Department is currently looking for a Claims Director. The Director will be responsible for outcomes of all claims within their purview, including severe/complex matters. The Director will oversee a team of claim professionals who handle claims from the Primary Special Risk Surplus & Specialty Lines Profit Center as well as various claims in run-off.

This role can be based in Southfield, MI, Jersey City, NJ, Chicago, IL, Morristown, NJ or fully remote in the U.S.

What you will do for C&F:

    The Director will work collaboratively with front-line claim personnel and claim management to execute on enterprise-wide initiatives to impact bottom line financial results.
  • As the leader of the claims team, the Director will make timely and appropriate assignments, ensure there are appropriate and timely coverage reviews, claim investigations, analysis, damage assessments and disposition strategies with action plans to ensure fair and equitable resolutions.
  • For claims in litigation, the Director will ensure that panel attorneys are assigned and litigation management strategies are developed and executed.
  • The Director will also act as a liaison with the underwriting team regarding claim strategy, coverage decisions and business trends.
  • Overall the Director must exhibit and provide guidance and direction to the claim professionals which reflects prudent business strategies and sound judgment.

What you will bring to C&F:

  • The ideal candidate should possess ten years' progressive Commercial General Liability claim handling experience inclusive of large loss claim adjusting and significant coverage analysis experience.
  • Five years in a Claims leadership role; Supervisor, Manager or Director.
  • Four-year college degree required; Law degree and/or CPCU designation preferred.
  • Extensive experience with one of the following: Products Liability, Habitability or Hospitality Industry claims required.
  • Significant experience with sophisticated coverage programs including manuscript policy forms highly preferred.
  • Significant experience in analyzing contracts and evaluating risk transfer issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent claim analytics and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business partners throughout the organization including Underwriting, Actuarial, Risk Engineering, Operations and Training.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and work in a cooperative manner.
  • Adapts easily to change.
  • Proficient with use of computers and Microsoft Office Outlook, Word and Excel.

Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $82,500.00 to a maximum of $187,800.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee's contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs
