Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Graduate from an approved college or university with a Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing or closely related field.
  • Current license or eligibility for license as a LMSW, LICSW, LPC, ALC, MSN, or J.D. in the State of Alabama required.
  • Minimum 2 years demonstrated excellence in Counseling and Social work
  • Ability to manage clinical programs and milieu

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

The following description covers the most significant duties performed, but does not exclude other work assignments not mentioned.

  • Serve as a role model for quality patient care and support an environment conducive to professional growth.
  • In collaboration with the Risk Manager and Nurse Manager investigate critical incidents and complaints from patients, personnel, other departments, and inform Director of Clinical Services - Acute.
  • Assure a therapeutic and safe environment, patients' rights, the nursing process, safety, and patients' participation in their care.
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate the needs of the program with other disciplines, activities, and programs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the total program and make recommendations and changes as indicated.
  • Assure unit is clean and neat, and maintenance upkeep is conducted. Reports any problems in this area to the Director of Plant Operations .as needed.
  • Utilize the Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing as a resource to address nursing issues and concerns.
  • Report staff that do not show Service Excellence to their supervisor.
  • Meet with the Director of Clinical Services - Acute and residents/patients to assess program needs and allow feedback.
  • Initiates and complete admission screening, discharge, and aftercare planning. Demonstrate an adequate knowledge base of growth, development, abnormal psychology, and forencics.
  • Consistently demonstrate competence in day-to-day scheduling of duties by completing tasks on time with little assistance from others as required.
  • Provide direct care; utilize appropriate knowledge and skills in providing treatment to patients/residents and their families.
  • Complete psycho-social assessments per policy and procedure.
  • Complete groups as assigned and individual and family therapy as indicated. Document accurately and precisely in a timely manner and per P/Ps.
  • Participate in treatment and provide necessary documentation, make changes and update Treatment plan per P/Ps.
  • Coordinate and document placement and discharge planning.
  • Attend all mandatory employee in-services as scheduled and remain certified in Handle with Care, Verbal De-escalation, and CPR.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to stand up from the floor
  • Ability to stoop and bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist
  • Ability to reach and lift approximately 15 pounds above head level
  • Ability to perform physical aspects of CPR and maintain active certification CPI at all times
  • Ability to perform all physical techniques and maneuvers in CPI
  • Ability to physically restrain a patient (maneuvering patients according to CPI technique into a controlled position and holding them for extended periods of time
  • Sufficient flexibility and dexterity to be able to move quickly (to prevent harm, to stop harm that is occurring, to avoid being hit by punches or kicks, etc.)
  • Capability of performing sustained physical exertion (struggling to control a combative patient for extended periods of time may sustain significantly increased heart rate and respiration throughout that time with no rest period available)
  • Ability to kneel for long periods of time
