As a Test Engineer supporting the Crew Systems and Extra Vehicular Activities (EVA) Integration and Test (I&T) team, you will be supporting our mission to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Lunar Permanence is Blue Origin's team dedicated to developing mission architectures such as our planned Lunar Lander program, Blue Moon (Link: ). Our Lunar Transportation team is developing our Lunar Pathfinder mission will demonstrate the lander's core capabilities - including the privately funded BE-7 landing engine, precision landing sensors, and advanced integrated power and propulsion architecture - on an early New Glenn flight.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as one of the Test Engineer responsible engineers for component and subsystem test activities
  • Identify test events, needs, equipment, and staffing required for Crew Systems and EVA
  • Apply direct experience to component and subsystem test planning and execution, which could include development, qualification, acceptance, human-in-the-loop, performance, and environmental testing
  • Decompose test standards and requirements into discrete executable events
  • Develop test plans and procedures for component and subsystem test
  • Execute test plans and procedures as part of an integrated test team
  • Lead daily test operations, operate test consoles, direct technician work and coordinate with internal customers.
  • Experience with test facility instrumentation and Data Acquisition and Control Systems.
  • Work with the design and systems engineers to plan tests for Crew Systems and EVA assemblies, ensuring the tests are designed to verify the pertinent requirements.
  • Design, procure, and install test support equipment; manage vendors and subcontractors during installation.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise during testing.
  • Reduce, analyze, and archive test data to support verification tasks.
  • Perform root cause, system hazard analysis and failure investigations.
  • Find opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings.
  • Proactively prepare status updates and communicates both within the organization and with direct customers.
  • Have frequent inter-organizational and customer interactions on difficult technical issues.
  • Work independently to determine and develop approaches to solutions.
  • Participate in test readiness review, pre and post test briefings, and post test reviews.
  • Manage procedural redlines and updates during test campaigns.
  • Coordinate test crews, support equipment and vehicle configurations for testing.
  • Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • BS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of applicable experience.
  • Experience with defining component and subsystem test campaigns
  • Experience with space vehicle component or subsystem testing including structural, vibe, acoustic, modal.
  • Experience with human-in-the-loop testing
  • Understand the Test Like You Fly assessment and exception process.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience with participating in NASA technical reviews.
  • Experience with human-rated programs
  • Understands/experience with hazardous operations.
  • Experience with scripting (Python or other scripting language).
  • Familiarity with SMC-S-016

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $146,645-$205,302
