Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $62,300 - Midpoint: $81,000 (Salaried E10)

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Engineering Researcher I contributes to the planning and design of engineering research and creative projects. Performs supporting research and creative activities such as data analysis, monitoring outcomes, performing lab maintenance, and/or performing experiments and creating creative projects. May assist in short- and long-term planning and project goals. May assist with research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.

Additional Department Summary: This position is housed in The Center for Advanced Vehicle Technologies (CAVT). Supports the planning and execution of a range of externally funded research projects over a range of topics including fundamental combustion studies, engine and vehicle testing including autonomous driving systems, and transportation system evaluation. Works with a team to perform technical tasks including design, installation, instrumentation, safety analysis, and testing of the experimental hardware. Performs post-processing and data analysis tasks. Authors technical and scientific reports and papers. Delivers technical presentations at professional meetings and conferences. Designs and delivers in-person and/or online tutorials/short courses. Works primarily under the direction of Dr. Bittle as Associate Director of CAVT but also with direction from PI's on specific assigned projects. The initial appointment is for two years with option for extension if funds are available.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of engineering or closely related research experience; OR master's degree or higher and some engineering or closely related research experience. Post-Baccalaureate degree is highly preferred (Master's degree or higher).

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent technical and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and external collaborators. Strong background in programming and data analysis and experimental activities in at least one of the areas of focus. Ability to impart knowledge to other team members to support the projects in both technical and project management capacities.

Preferred Qualifications: PhD with research focus in fundamental combustion studies, engine and vehicle testing including autonomous driving systems, and transportation system evaluation.
