Job Description

JOB TITLE: Locksmith

SCA OCCUP: 23510 LOCKSMITH

SALARY GRADE: Federal Wage Determination or Collective Bargaining Agreement

FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt

APPROVAL DATE: June 2014

POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Locksmith installs, repairs, modifies, and opens a variety of locking mechanisms found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

    *Examines locking mechanisms and installs new units.
  1. *Disassembles unit and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
  2. *Repairs parts by filing, drilling, chiseling and grinding.
  3. *Opens door locks by moving lock pick in cylinder or opening safe locks by listening to lock sounds, or drilling.
  4. *Makes new or duplicate keys, using key cutting machine
  5. *Changes combinations by inserting new or repaired tumblers into lock.
  6. *Establishes keying systems for buildings
  7. *Install and repair panic hardware
  8. *Frequent travel between facilities.
  9. *Complies with PRIDE's safety program and adheres to proper safety practices
  10. Other duties as assigned.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma, GED required;
  • Three (3) years progressively responsible experience, typically acquired through on-the-job training or through a formal apprenticeship training program, or equivalent training and experience
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment common to the locksmith trade
  • Effective communication and customer service skills to act responsively to customer inquiries and requests, and escalate the more difficult matters appropriately
  • Security clearance may be required at some locations

CERTIFICATES REQUIRED:

  • GSA Safe & Vault Technician Certification may be required.
  • Valid driver's license required for this position at most locations.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:

  • Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping (70-80%)
  • Lift or move tools, equipment or materials up to 50 pounds (10-15%)
  • Work in confined spaces (10-15%)
  • Work in areas of hazardous equipment (10-20%)
  • May work near or with toxic substances (5-10%)
  • May be exposed to wind, rain, cold, and heat (20-25%)
  • May be exposed to noise (20-25%)

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed at a customer's location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment.
