A Sr Mechanical Engineer, prepares detail designs of GD-OTS products for application to contracted programs, supports new business activities, and does independent research and development activities. The ideal candidate will perform work that involves conventional types of designs, investigations, analyses, or equipment. Assignments will generally include one or more of the following: equipment design, analysis, test, or manufacture, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigations, report preparation, and other activities of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific area of assignments. We are looking for someone who can lead customer technical information exchanges.

Major Position Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities Include:

    Carries out detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling, simulations (e.g., thermal and stress).
  • Responsible for mechanical part selection and creating initial BOM, cost model and assembly drawings. Creates detailed drawings of parts for manufacturing.
  • Collaborates with other functional teams in the organization that analyze their designs or tests aspects of their designs.
  • Works closely with the manufacturing team to assure Design for Manufacturing and design for cost principles are used early on in all design projects.
  • Ensures design files and information are kept up to date and are under version control in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Creates technical reports and documentation for design reviews and customer reviews.
  • Lead, document design reviews and distributes minutes if required.
  • Mentor early career engineers.
  • Demonstrates and promotes teamwork and cooperation with team members at all levels in the organization to solve problems and improve processes.

Basic Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline; preferably aerospace or mechanical.
    • Design Engineering required.
  • Master's degree in a technical discipline; preferably aerospace or mechanical.
    • Design Engineering preferred.

Experience Required:

  • 5 to 7 years of experience.

Skills Preferred:

  • MS-Office Proficient, CREO/CAD proficient, analysis (thermal and stress).
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical design.

Pay Range (USD)
74,000-138,000
Additional Compensation
Hired applicant may be eligible to participate in the Company's Gain Sharing Program.
