Position Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Purpose

Designs and analyzes electro-mechanical systems for SCI's advanced Technology Group. Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing, and prototype fabrication. 

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities

•           Developing new products and product enhancements in a rapid-paced, cross-functional team design environment

•           Innovative mechanical design and rapid prototyping of advanced electro-mechanical systems

•           Design simulation and analysis for thermal management, fluid flow, structural integrity, and high vibration and shock environments

•           Design validation test development

•           Design documentation

•           Technical communication with internal and external customers

Education and Experience

•           BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university, MS degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred

•           5 – 7 years experience in product design

•           Experience in the design of electro-mechanical systems using SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or similar 3D solid modeling CAD software.  

•           Experience in 2D drawing generation from solid models is required.  Experience in interpreting GD&T and designing using GD&T is preferred

•           Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for both structural, vibration, and shock analysis using Nastran or other similar simulation software is desired

•           Thermal and Computational Fluid Dynamics experience using FloEFD or other similar simulation software is desired

•           Experience in rapid prototyping utilizing 3D printers, metal and plastic machining, and carbon fiber is desired

•           Experience in the design, testing, and construction of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) is highly desired

•           FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification is desired
